The 100 Day Project is a global project where artists commit to a self initiated project for 100 days and share their progress online.
Day 1: JANUARY 31, 2021 - PROJECT STATEMENT
Day 1/100 of small watercolor works aka #100daysofcolormehappy
My mission this year is to keep things light, grant myself permission to enjoy a medium that I love but typically put on the back burner for practicality reasons, and see what happens. As of now, I don’t have any preconceived ideas for subject matter other than color itself.
Whew! I said it.
I have some basic parameters in place to eliminate the need to make certain decisions which over time would deter me from daily practice: same size paper, watercolor, and a single brush for 100 days. Go!
Guys, this is a challenge for me where the hard work happens on the inside. Don’t be surprised if I get a little tongue tied.
Day 100: MAY 10, 2021 - Project Summary
Today, I finished my 100 day project.
This project gave me something consistent and freeing to do everyday even if only for a few minutes. It provided a routine to anchor a morning, afternoon, or evening on while my knees buckled and things around me rattled. Some days, it gave me an excuse to celebrate a happy feeling. Above all, it allowed me a place to be imperfect and to watch colors swirl if that is what I desired that day.
I am both surprised that I made it to the 100 day mark and also knew it was totally possible considering I was seeking an excuse to make art selfishly while letting go of getting it right (because I make things for a living and being a creative professional is confusing sometimes).
The result —
Keep your ego out of it. Play.
